Soon and Soon Souvenir Shop is preparing to reopen at 731 Grant Ave. in San Francisco’s Chinatown, according to The San Francisco Standard. The business will return with a cafe concept that includes Paper Son Coffee, along with merchandise and specialty goods associated with the original shop.
Soon and Soon was created by Brandon Jew and Anna Chet Jew Lee, who are also behind San Francisco restaurants Mister Jiu’s and Moongate Lounge. The original Soon and Soon location opened in December 2021 and closed in October 2022, and the reopening will bring the concept back to the same Chinatown location.
The new Soon and Soon will include coffee from Paper Son Coffee, founded by barista Alex Pong, a brand that began as a pop-up in 2023 before opening a permanent location in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood.
The coffee menu will include espresso drinks, pour-over coffee, and signature beverages inspired by Chinese cafe traditions. Paper Son Coffee plans to include seasonal single-origin coffees from Yunnan, China, a region known for coffee production, and the shop will also offer a blend called Apricot Mist, which references the history of the Soon and Soon building and its previous uses.
Due to the size of the space, the reopened shop will only include outdoor seating in an outdoor parklet. The business will also continue elements of the souvenir shop concept, with plans for specialty merchandise, wine, and to-go beverages.
