According to Hoodline, a new grab-and-go bakery, Leadbetter’s Bake Shop, is opening in The Castro.
Coming to 554 Castro Street, taking over a space formerly home to Castro Fountain, the eatery will land near establishments such as Anchor Oyster Bar, Heroic Italian, and Philz Coffee.
Formerly a wholesale business, the concept’s owner, Jamieson Leadbetter, assures What Now San Francisco, “The English muffin is the star of the show.” “On the sweet side, we’ll be doing a cherry chocolate… On the savory side, there will be apricot ginger, savory roasted onion and olive, sundried tomato, and cheddar cheese,” he shares, describing which muffin flavors will be offered.
The menu will also offer English muffin-based sandwiches, a chicken pie, and baked goods — think hermit cookies, blueberry pie, cookies, brownies, and lemon bars.
Leadbetter says that, unlike the selection of English muffins, “We won’t always have the same baked goods in our showcase, we’ll be rotating them through.”
Upon opening, Leadbetter’s will be open from Wednesday through Friday from 7 am to 2 pm. On Saturday and Sunday, the shop’s hours will be from 8 am to 4 pm. Leadbetter mentions potentially extending the hours in the future.
“This business will end up being the business that the community wants it to be,” he explains.
Concerning an opening date, Leadbetter shares, “We’re just waiting on the health department… I would like to be open before the end of the month.” Stay tuned for updates.
