Dirty Dan Harris Steakhouse has officially reopened under new ownership in Bellingham.

The restaurant closed in 2023 after a fire at the adjacent Terminal Building and quietly reopened on April 7 under Steven Marandola and Heather Everett, according to Cascadia Daily News.

This marks a full-circle moment for Marandola, who previously worked at the steakhouse, rising from dishwasher to server, bartender and manager.

For nearly 50 years, the fine dining spot has been a staple and one of the oldest establishments in the Fairhaven Historic District, a “place where hard work meets hearty food and a strong pour.”

It is also named in honor of the infamous Daniel Harris.

Daniel Jefferson “Dirty Dan” Harris was a whaler, trader and pioneer who arrived in the Pacific Northwest in 1854. He helped develop Fairhaven in 1883. Harris built his wealth through land speculation and trade but repeatedly ran into trouble with the law, including arrests related to alcohol smuggling, earning a rough reputation, the website reads.

The restaurant offers lunch, dinner and happy hour specials.

The menu features custom-aged natural beef, slow-roasted prime rib and hand-cut steaks, along with wild Pacific salmon, Dungeness crab, Chuckanut Bay shellfish, prawns, scallops, pastas, hickory-smoked ribs and grilled vegetables.

Standout dishes include the Magic Mushroom, grilled portobello mushrooms with sautéed onions and roasted red peppers, topped with melted provolone cheese or vegan cheese, described as a meatless cheesesteak. The Italian Market Pork Sandwich, inspired by South Philly’s Italian markets, features slow-roasted pork layered with sharp smoked provolone and garlicky broccoli rabe on a toasted hoagie roll, served with au jus.

The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board recently approved the steakhouse’s liquor license, according to business filings. The restaurant specializes in premium spirits and serves award-winning wines.
