Order up! A family-owned neighborhood deli is slicing its way into Seattle soon.

Friends of Carmela, co-owned by Carly Duke of Lavish Roots Catering and Hospitality, is set to open at Pike Place Market at 1904 Pike Place in the former Michou Deli space.

The interior will feature an energetic, welcoming design with nods to classic Italian-American delis, according to a brand filing.

The plan calls for removing some stools and a portion of the seating counter to improve line flow and allow customers to move through the space more efficiently.

Chef Nate will prepare all food on-site. The menu will feature breakfast sandwiches, as well as hot and cold heroes, antipasti and desserts including brownies, tiramisu, cinnamon crumble coffee cake and banana bread.

Standouts include an Italian sandwich with Italian cold cuts, sour hots, pickled lemon, dressing and shredded lettuce; a steak sandwich with grilled top sirloin, beefy onions, Cougar Gold cheese sauce, broccolini and fried onions; and a chicory Caesar salad with pangrattato.

The team will also add a coffee program to complement the menu. They will replace the former soup station from Michou Deli with a coffee and tea station.

An official opening date has not been announced. Once open, the eatery will serve breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m., deli fare from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and offer happy hour beginning at 5:30 p.m.
