Janta, a new concept from the team behind Spice Waala, is preparing to open in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood.

The company recently began teasing the project on social media, confirming that the concept will operate as Janta by Spice Waala, with an exact address and opening date still to be announced.

While details about Janta remain limited, the concept appears to be the latest venture from Spice Waala founders Uttam Mukherjee and Aakanksha Sinha, who launched the Indian street food brand in Seattle in 2018.

Spice Waala started as a stall at the South Lake Union Saturday Market before growing into a local restaurant group with locations in Capitol Hill, Ballard, and Columbia City.

The company has built its reputation around authentic Indian street food, including kathi rolls, chaat, kebabs, and house-made beverages inspired by the flavors of Calcutta and New Delhi.

Recent social media posts from the company show Janta signage installed in a Wallingford storefront, accompanied by messages such as “Something new is brewing” and “Janta by Spice Waala coming soon.”

Although the company has not yet revealed a menu or additional details, the connection to Spice Waala suggests the concept will continue the founders’ focus on Indian flavors and community-centered hospitality.
