Every neighborhood needs a good grocery store, and Chesterfield County will soon be getting a great one. Publix, the well-loved grocery chain with a homebase in Florida, has signed on to open as part of an upcoming retail development in the neighborhood, reports Richmond Biz Sense.

Publix is signed on to be the anchor store for the upcoming Shoppes at Old Hundred shopping center, which will be located at the intersection of Old Hundred Road and Woolridge Road. The grocery giant is set to occupy a sprawling 53,000 square foot storefront.

Locals will need to exercise some patience in anticipation of the store’s opening. Construction is slated to begin in 2027 and projected to wrap in 2028’s third quarter, suggesting that opening day is still in the relatively distant future.

Founded in 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida, Publix has become a significant name in the grocery scene. The website explains why: “At Publix, our mission is to be the premier quality food retailer in the world. Toward this mission, we aim to satisfy the needs of our customers better than the competition, provide a superior shopping experience, and ensure that our customers receive a superior value.” The chain has more than 1,400 locations open across the country.
