House of Wah Sun, a Lincoln Square Chinese restaurant, is getting ready to relocate to Irvine Park, located at 3234 W. Irving Park Rd.
Owner Mark Chiang tells Block Club Chicago he plans to move the business to the former home of Golden Nugget Pancake House, which has served the Northwest Side for over 52 years. Chaing decided not to renew the lease at 4319 N. Lincoln Avenue and instead relocate by the end of July 2022. The Lincoln Square location will remain open until the relocation, but Chiang says he is waiting for the city’s approval. Golden Nugget Pancake House closed earlier this month after struggling with its customer base and employment.
It’s a bittersweet moment for the area, which has been home to the breakfast spot since 1970. Fortunately, what’s left of the staff has been moved to one of the other four locations. Once the relocation is completed, customers can expect modern interpretations of classic dishes using high-quality fresh ingredients. Some popular menu items include the Wah Sun chicken wings special, Wah Sun’s chop suey, and egg foo young.
“Literally, my heart is in my stomach still,” Golden Nugget Pancake House owner Cathy Guzman tells Block Club Chicago. “I’ve worked for Golden Nugget for the past 34 years. I’ve watched kids grow up. It hurts us to have to close a location. We just hope that customers go to our other locations. That’s what we’re hoping for.”
CORRECTION: The article previously stated the new restaurant will be moving to 4229 W. Irving Park Rd. The restaurant will actually move to 3234 W. Irvine Park Rd.
Wrong location. House of Wah Sun is moving into the former Golden Nugget at 3234 W. Irving Park.
