Wholly Frijoles is preparing to expand just a few doors down in Lincolnwood, located at 3900 W. Touhy Ave.

The company recently announced on social media that it is opening a new location two doors down as a separate catering and sweet shop. The new, bigger space and kitchen will allow the company to offer more new party trays and space for events, meetings, parties, and more. This expansion also allows Wholly Frijoles to expand its menu, adding new cakes, pies, and ice cream selections. The new restaurant will also feature an expanded patio and waiting area. Ownership tells What Now Chicago they aim to open in the first week of May 2023.

The company was founded in September 2000 by chef Carmen Villegas, who invited his nephew Christian Villegas to be part of the Wholly Frijoles team and convey his passion for food. While working under his uncle, Christian learned about others countries’ gastronomy by working with chefs Daniel Harms and Linda Ross. In December 2016, Carmen left the business and sold the restaurant to his nephew and family. The new family-owned restaurant is ready to expand further with this new sweet shop.

In the same building, between Chicago Nails and Baskin Robins, Wholly Frijoles’ original location can be found at 2908 W. Touhy, offering contemporary Mexican food. The restaurant offers a different chef special every week, recently including a cream of chayote soup, tacos gobernador with three shrimp tacos sinaloa-style, carne asada ranchers, a cinnamon churro a la mode, and an el Conejo Valiente from the bar, featuring 400 conejos mezcal, orange liquor, pineapple, guajillo pepper reduction.
