Construction is underway for Legal Seafoods in Chicago, according to an article by FSR Magazine. This well-known New England restaurant chain is slated to open its new location on 315 North Dearborn Street come winter of 2023.

This new location will serve as the brick-and-mortar in Chicago, as the team at Legal Seafoods saw much success with their virtual kitchen that was launched there in 2020. The restaurant will be right on the riverfront with outdoor and indoor dining both with views of the river, as said in the article by FSR Magazine. Along with indoor and outdoor seating, patrons could expect the opportunity to book private dining rooms.

This seafood joint is known for its “pier to plate” concept. Lobster mac and cheese and stuffed lobster tails will be served at the outpost, along with different shellfish and finfish. The new sake and sushi menu will offer fresh nigiri, sashimi, and sushi rolls, as well as a selection of sake.

With 25 locations and counting, Legal Seafoods spans the Northeast in five states; Massachusetts, Virginia, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. The Seafood chain’s website tells of its beginnings as a seafood market in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1950 with the Berkowitz family. With their success as a seafood market, they moved on to the restaurant world, serving simple seafood fare. According to their site, PPX Hospitality Brands bought the main corporate facility and 23 restaurants in 2020.

Parent company PPX Hospitality Brands, the parent company of Legal Seafoods, has an existing restaurant in Chicago called Smith & Wollensky Group.

What Now Chicago contacted the Director of Operations for Legal Seafoods, Tom Clancy, for comment. Tom was unavailable for immediate response.
