A brand new Korean barbecue restaurant, JJang Korean BBQ, is preparing to open next year in La Mesa, located at 3637 Avocado Blvd.

The restaurant will replace the former IHOP space in the Rancho San Diego Village shopping center, according to a liquor license. Karam Solaiman tells What Now San Diego that he hopes to open JJang Korean BBQ in early Spring 2025, although, with the city permitting process, this timeline could potentially change. When the new concept opens, customers can expect an authentic Korean BBQ experience with a variety of meat slices, sides, and other delicious options.

This will be an excellent location for the restaurant, situated almost in the center of the shopping complex. While there are a handful of other restaurants in the area, including a few other Asian eateries, JJANG Korean BBQ will be one of the largest ones in the shopping center. Aside from competing with Golden Bay Asian Food and Tappi Sushi & Grill, this restaurant will be the only Korean BBQ concept in La Mesa.

Those who haven’t tried Korean BBQ should know it is a communal dining experience where guests grill various slices of marinated meat over a charcoal or gas grill. On top of a variety of small, tender cuts like beef tongue, beef short ribs, pork belly, and chicken, the meal is typically served with a variety of side dishes called banchan, including kimchi, pickled radishes, and steamed eggs. Residents in La Mesa should be relieved they soon won’t have to travel far to get their hands on delicious Korean BBQ.
