The City Winery team is opening a new Mediterranean restaurant, Ofcorsica, on Pier 57. The spot will be situated near the flagship City Winery location, taking a 7,000-square-foot ground floor space.
City Winery CEO Michael Dorf told What Now New York that, as the name suggests, the spot will serve food inspired specifically by the islands of the Mediterranean.
“[The name] is a play on the island of Corsica, which has a history of being Italian and getting taken over by the French,” Dorf said. “It’s a historic island in the Mediterranean that also feels extremely independent, so we like the idea of honoring this island.”
The location will be on the tip of the pier, which Dorf said is the farthest westerly point in Manhattan. It will have the capacity to seat between 125 and 150 guests.
Like the menu, the design will center around the Mediterranean islands. The drink menu will also offer a nod to this theme, serving a specialty list of Corsican wines in addition to a wine list featuring City Winery items.
“It’s not just Greek, Italian, Israeli or Moroccan — the countries that surround the Mediterranean — but really a focus on the islands of the Mediterranean,” Dorf said.
Dorf launched City Winery in 2008 and opened the massive City Winery flagship location on Pier 57 in 2020. He said they are in the process of finishing construction on Ofcorsica, and they hope to open the restaurant by the beginning of June.
“Pier 57 is the home of our flagship City Winery, so to bring more culinary stops to the pier is very exciting,” Dorf said.
