The original plan was to name the new nightclub Hush, says owner Angela Calaras, before the team discovered a nightclub and pub called Hush already exists in Chicago, having opened about a mile south on Chicago Avenue earlier this year. Calaras’ new late night establishment is unaffiliated with the existing Hush, which serves food as well as drinks, and she says a new name for her project has not yet been decided on. Calaras’ nightclub will not serve food.
A liquor license application filed with the City of Chicago indicates the nightclub will open on the basement floor at 1446 N. Wells Street in Chicago’s Near North Side. It appears the new club is taking over the space that last housed SUITE Lounge. Calaras couldn’t speak to an opening date and cited permitting processes delayed by the pandemic as the primary reason.
N. Wells Street is home to more than one bar and music venue. Calaras’ club will neighbor existing spots like 80 Proof, the venue with three bars, DJs, and a vegan menu, as well as Benchmark, the area’s lively sports bar serving pub food. Old Town Pour House, an upscale pub with a sprawling beer list, is also located just down the street.
