Tuesday, November 30th was the final day to imbibe at Augie’s Booze & Schmooze, the neighborhood bar that had been in operation for 27 years in Chicago’s Lincoln Park. In a farewell post Javier Benitez, one of the bar’s previous owners, wrote, “there are new owners taking over the 1721 West Wrightwood property including Augie’s who are looking to renovate, remodel and continue operating the space as a business. So please join us in offering the new regime best wishes and success in their endeavor.”

Isabelle and Michael Nigro have taken over the property and Block Club Chicago reports the pair will close on the sale in January. In a text message with What Now Chicago, Isabelle Nigro wrote plans for the property are still preliminary at this point.

According to Block Club Chicago, the beloved bar won’t be totally lost. While the new owners plan to overhaul the space, which could take over a year, they told the publication they plan to revive the bar with an expanded menu of “higher-end” bar food. Nigro also wants to convert the outdoor volley ball court into patio seating. She suspects these renovations could extend into late 2022 or early 2023.
