Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, the Ohio-based ice cream company with over 60 branded scoop shops, is expanding to Andersonville, located at 5306 N. Clark St.
The company will move into the former home of George’s Ice Cream & Sweets, a beloved mom-and-pop dessert shop that closed earlier this year. The exact opening date of the new Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is unknown, but city records show the company is currently renovating the space. Last month city officials granted several permits to officially change ownership and allow for interior work, such as the installation of new kitchen flooring, lighting, countertops, plumbing systems, and more.
The new Ice Cream Shop is a bittersweet moment for the community, as George’s has been a staple for the past 13 years. The former ice cream shop owners wanted to honor their father, George Stotis, who owned and operated Andersonville’s Recycle Shop on Clark Street for over three decades. Now the space will be filled with a nationally recognized ice cream chain that delivers across the country. Andersonville is also expected to welcome a new Kilwin’s later this year.
As for the new Jeni’s space, ice cream lovers will have a lot to look forward to when the shop finally opens. On top of the various delicious ice cream flavors, such as wedding cake, powdered jelly donuts, and green mint chip, the company is constantly introducing new flavors. Right now, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is offering its fall flavors, including pumpkin cake roll, cream puff, and more. If you can’t make it to Andersonville for these flavors, you can always order online.
