A cozy cafe and bar concept is coming from owner Mike Rosenthal to Marathon Village at 1501 Herman St. as early as this summer. Grandpa Bar will focus on craft coffees and whiskey-based drinks on its menu, along with pastries and small plates.

Though an exact grand opening date is too far to determine, Rosenthal has his sights set on summer as the tentative timeline to open in the Apex Marathon Village apartment complex.

The space, as it’s being revealed through Instagram posts, will be an intimate and quant gathering place for community members to start their day or wind down at night. There will be an old-school vintage touch to its aesthetic, and it plans to offer an array of options to cater to everyone, including low-ABV beverages and non-alcoholic options.

As noted on its social media, unique spins on classic cocktails like the Manhattan and trendy espresso martinis will be on the menu as Grandpa Bar’s signature specialty.

Located in Marathon Village near Watkin’s Park, the area is prime real estate for growth and foot traffic, with Fisk University and Meharry Medical College in close distance.

Other nearby businesses that Grandpa Bar will soon neighbor include Nelson’s Green Briar Distillery, Fire Birria Tacos, and William Collier’s bar.
