The Mug, a cafe and micro-bakery is slated to open its doors on Second Avenue in Piet Hill. The new joint will be opening its doors as one-third of a building owned by Central Detroit Christian Community Development at 8735 Second Avenue.
One of the partners in the project, Matt Hale, shared with What Now Detroit on Monday that the new joint is meant to have a “word of mouth culture” surrounding it.
“The challenge in this neighborhood is that so many new businesses are opening. Most of them bring people from out of the area, we want don’t want to bring that buzz. We want to keep things local.”
The opening date of The Mug is unknown by the owners at the time, “We are experiencing a long hold, running into a lot of red tape along the way.” Hale shared. Though, the partners in the project have been launching a few pop-ups to keep the momentum going.
As it stands, the partners in the project are unsure of the direction the micro-bakery is set to take in terms of the environment of the joint. Though the menu will have coffee beverages and many baked goods.
The new micro-bakery will be opening next to Fit & Fold Laundry Mat and Detroit Remade.
