A new restaurant concept called El Forno is getting ready to make its debut in La Jolla at 1000 Prospect Street, marking the latest venture from local restaurateur Hadeer Ascandar.

This new restaurant is set to move into the former home of Ahi Pacific, according to a recent liquor license application that is still pending. Ascandar, known for Gaslamp Pizza and Pizza on 5th in downtown San Diego, is now bringing his latest concept to La Jolla. Details about El Forno are still limited, including an official opening date and menu details. The name hints at an Italian theme, likely focusing on oven-fired dishes.

This will be a perfect location for the new concept, considering El Forno is taking over a rare, smaller restaurant space in the heart of downtown La Jolla, along Prospect Street’s popular “Restaurant Row.” It’s a prime spot with strong daytime foot traffic, a wealthy local population, and a steady flow of year-round tourists. The location offers excellent visibility thanks to a signature storefront and prominent signage along one of the area’s busiest streets.

The space is part of a 3,752-square-foot retail property originally built in 1975 and renovated in 2000, according to LoopNet. It’s surrounded by an impressive mix of high-end neighbors, including Tommy Bahama, Quiksilver, Vigilucci’s, Brooks Brothers, and the La Valencia Hotel, along with a variety of boutiques, art galleries, and popular attractions. All signs point to this being a strong setting for El Forno to attract both locals and visitors alike.
