Mondo’s Italian Restaurant in Charleston is undergoing renovations and expanding its dining space, but the longtime local favorite is continuing to serve its classic Italian fare during construction.

The restaurant recently completed the first phase of the project and has moved on to the next, which includes building out the space to better accommodate guests. Mondo’s has been a part of the Charleston dining scene for more than 25 years.

“As we are undergoing construction, this may lead to unexpected closures, fluctuating hours, and alterations to our menu. Your understanding and patience during this period are greatly appreciated,” the restaurant said in a social media post.

Portions of the new space—located to the right of the original front entrance and outdoor patio—are open. The restaurant remains in operation Tuesday through Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5 to 8:30 p.m., depending on construction progress.

The menu includes appetizers, soups, salads and a variety of entrees. Baked options include manicotti, rigatoni and eggplant Parmesan, along with cream-based and rosé sauce dishes. Lighter offerings such as piccata and linguine, as well as red sauce staples like spaghetti and meatballs, are also available.

Guests can pair their meals with house wine or a frozen Aperol spritz, now offered for summer.

Owner Chris Orlando told What Now Charleston renovations are expected to be completed by the end of August.
