A new Italian concept from the owners of Pelago is in the works for next year.

Former Pelago owners Mauro and Kimberly Mafrici recently put in a liquor license for a new restaurant at 980 N Michigan Avenue, Floor 2. It is under the name “Mauro Mafrici One Magnificent Mile Restaurant.” On the Instagram page for the new restaurant, the description says “Coming to Chicago 2026.”

Mauro is a Michelin starred Italian chef who has worked at restaurants in New York and Chicago. He brought his restaurant Pelago to 209 E Delaware Place in Streeterville which closed in 2022. This is the newest project they are bringing to the city.

At Pelago, Mauro brought his Italian roots to the restaurant and many of his crafted dishes including butternut squash, roasted monkfish with potatoes and vegetarian lasagna. The menu for the new location has not been disclosed.

The building is at the corner of E Oak Street and N Michigan Avenue, on the northmost side of Magnificent Mile. It is also across the street from Oak Street Beach. Other restaurants in the area include Doc B’s Restaurant, Coq d-Or cocktail bar and Le Colonial Chicago French-Vietnamese restaurant & Lounge.
