Mercatto, a well-known Toronto-based Italian restaurant, is expanding west with plans to open at the corner of Lakeshore Road West and Mississauga Road inside the Brightwater development in Port Credit.

Signs for the new restaurant are already up, and interior work is underway, according to Insauga. Partner Domenic Scarangella tells What Now Toronto that the new Mercatto location is expected to open in early 2026. This is the latest from Mercatto Hospitality, which operates four well-known restaurants in the Greater Toronto Area.

Mercatto will offer a mix of traditional and modern Italian dishes, including pizzas, pastas, mains, and desserts. Popular items include the diavola and speck pizzas, carbonara, orecchiette, and pan-seared lasagna. Executive chef Doug Neigel leads the kitchen.

Mercatto Hospitality currently operates four restaurants in downtown Toronto. Cantina Mercatto, located on Wellington Street, emphasizes wine-focused dining. Taverna Mercatto, situated on Bremner Boulevard, provides a casual atmosphere near the stadium district. Trattoria Mercatto in the Eaton Centre includes a hidden patio. Mercatto College Street, located in the MaRS Discovery District, features a menu inspired by the brand’s original takeout concept.

The restaurant group was founded in 1998 and describes each location as highlighting different aspects of Italian culinary heritage while sharing a unified approach to hospitality, food, and wine. The Mississauga opening marks the company’s first expansion outside the city of Toronto.

Mercatto Hospitality Group is a family-founded and chef-led group, focusing on authentic Italian fare and approachable dining experiences. The company has maintained a consistent presence in Toronto’s food scene for over 25 years, and the Brightwater location is part of its ongoing growth strategy.
