The beloved downtown Denver bar shut its food operations permanently on Sunday, July 27. Denver Sweet announced its closure on July 21 through their website. The post noted that the business never returned to pre-pandemic levels in recent years.
The post by the LGBTQ bar read, “Business has not returned to pre-pandemic levels, and over the last two years, we’ve seen a significant decline in traffic. Changing customer habits, tough economic conditions, and increased operational costs have made it increasingly difficult to sustain the business.”
Additionally, Denver Sweet emphasized rising labor costs, especially from living wage laws in Denver and Colorado. Rising costs and financial strain ultimately led the rooftop and video bar to close its doors.
