El Sótano is heading to 1245 Glenwood Avenue SE, with plans to open later this summer. The owner told What Now Atlanta that the community-forward concept will merge a restaurant, bar, bakery and juice bar.
The entire concept will center around Cuban cuisine and influence, featuring items like fresh Cuban breads and pastries and Cuban sandwiches. The spot will be open for breakfast and brunch, and then transition into lunch, dinner and late-night offerings. The late-night menu will feature items like tacos made with fresh corn tortillas.
The beverage menu will focus on drinks like piña coladas and mocktails made with fresh juices.
“The associate who is helping to put together the bar program is coming up with some really cool ideas about deconstructing a lot of the Cuban classic cocktails and modernizing them,” the owner said.
The idea for El Sótano came about to create a gathering space for the community.
“It’s all part of my life and the people around me, and it just culminated into the concept that we are bringing to the community,” the owner said.
The space, which will span about 5,570 square feet and will have a seating capacity of 170, according to NPU documents. It will feature a mural, and the design of the space will create a fun, inviting atmosphere for customers.
“It’s a community center where people can come and vibe and even learn something, and of course have some really, really good quality food,” the owner said.
The proposed hours of operation are 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Sunday.
