Local theater meets local cuisine at a new Can Can Culinary Cabaret location coming to the Paris Theater space.
It was recently reported by Bridgetown Bites that Can Can Culinary Cabaret is taking over the Paris Theater space at 6 SW 3rd Avenue in Old Town. This has been a historical theater to the area since 1890, housing various cinemas. Now, it will feature a Seattle-based theater company with a restaurant addition.
Chris Pink is the founder of Can Can Culinary Cabaret, and he has been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years. He has grown his current cabaret at 95 Pine Street in Seattle and had been eying the new space since the pandemic. Now, after a roof collapse in the space, he and his company are getting ready to showcase their theater and restaurant.
“We and the building are stronger for it,” Pink told What Now Portland.
Pink said the menu will have twists of classic “Can Can favorites” from the Seattle location. Flatbreads, seafood entrees, soups and salads have been offered in the past. The menu will be released at a later time.
“We’d love to feature local purveyors and can’t wait to work with Oregon farms and vendors,” Pink said.
The space is described as “fraternal” to the Seattle location. It will of course be a theater, with taller ceilings than the one in Seattle so actors can do more aerial routines. There will be a stage balcony, and seating areas for the guests, including the restaurant space.
Can Can has previously performed in Portland, per the Bridgetown Bites article. It had been a long process contacting the owner and getting permits for the space. Pink and others chose the new location due to it being downtown, much like their Seattle theater.
