The Chinese and Korean cuisine spot is soon to be reintroduced to the suburb.
It was recently posted on Facebook that New Mandarin Garden, at 31539 W 13 Mile Road in Farmington Hills is undergoing interior remodeling to prepare for reopening. This follows a fire that occurred in October 2024. According to a post from the restaurant owners, they are aiming for a late fall opening.
The fire occurred on Oct. 21, causing “significant damages” to the restaurant, according to a Facebook post at the time. In April of this year, the restaurant updated its customers about an estimated opening date. Over the summer, much work was done on the interior to get it prepared for opening.
“The progress is taking longer than we anticipated, but our project remains on track for an early fall opening,” said the post.
New Mandarin has been in Farmington Hills since 1982 serving Chinese and Korean-influenced dishes. It was previously owned by Michael and Nana Che, the parents of the current owners who are Jerry and Garry Che. On their website, a description written by the owner says they want to work to get the restaurant reopened to continue their father’s legacy.
The menu of the restaurant prior to closure featured kung pao chicken, red Thai curry chicken, along with beef, pork and vegetable dishes. Noodles like lo mein were also on the menu, with an infusion of Chinese and Korean specials. It is not confirmed if the menu is being changed for the opening.
