According to a recently submitted permit application, the national chain Dough Zone Dumpling House is gearing up to debut a new location in the Bay Area — this time in Berkeley.
Coming to 1912 Shattuck Avenue, the eatery will land alongside establishments such as the coffee shop Berkeley Espresso, a Sweetgreen outpost, and the brewpub Triple Rock Brewing.
What Now San Francisco reached out to the outpost’s owner, Jason Zhai, to learn more about the company’s expansion; however, he could not provide additional information before publication.
While Dough Zone’s dumplings have become a popular meal in the Bay Area — there are already locations in Cupertino, North San Jose, San Mateo, South San Jose, and Walnut Creek — the story of how the business began is lesser known.
Founded in 2014 in Bellevue, Washington, by the husband-and-wife duo Nancy Zhai and Jason, Dough Zone Dumpling House started as a mom-and-pop operation.
“Dough Zone currently has over 22 locations in Washington, Oregon, California, and Texas. Each restaurant embodies Dough Zone’s core values, delivering an exceptional dining experience that combines Chinese tradition with modern innovation. With a strong foundation and a clear vision for the future, Moji Holding and Dough Zone are poised to bring their signature flavors and hospitality to even more communities across the United States,” the business shares on its website.
Menu offerings include dim sum — think pork and shrimp dumplings, spicy beef pancake rolls, and chicken potstickers — and entrees such as pork wontons in chicken soup, panfried beef pies, and Sichuan noodles. Additionally, the concept prioritizes affordability, with all of the menu items costing less than $10.
