The Chicago-based sandwich restaurant has sights on a new location in the Cubs neighborhood.

It was reported by Crain’s Chicago Business that Portillo’s is seeking a former 7-Eleven location in the neighborhood at 3519 N Clark Street. There are currently three locations within city limits. The company does not have an opening date right now as it is early in the planning process.

The news came from construction bids solicited by a company in Oak Brook. The location is just a short walk from Wrigley Field south of Addison Street. Across the street are staples like Merkle’s Bar and Grill and Moe’s Cantina.

Portillo’s was founded in 1963 in Villa Park and has become one of the main spots for a Chicago dog, with their beef and sausage sandwich also being a staple. Their locations serve char-broiled burgers, chicken, salads and pasta.

The company has seen success with restaurants across the country in states like Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Florida and California. They have also recently expanded in Texas in locations such as Dallas and Fort Worth. There are plans to open in Kennesaw, Georgia later this year.

While Portillo’s social media has remained quiet about the project, it has been confirmed by the company the new location is happening. What Now Chicago has reached out to Vice President of Operations for Portillo’s Marc Miller and is awaiting comment.
