Jamie and Kristi Cain have been looking to open their own bookstore for a long time. Now, they will finally realize that dream with the opening of Wildbird Bookshop at the forthcoming Homestead at Hog Mountain development, which is currently under construction. Jamie told What Now Atlanta that they are targeting Mother’s Day weekend in May for opening.

The store’s name is a nod to Wendell Berry’s “The Wild Bird,” a story that discusses membership in a community.

“We think books foster conversation, connection and community,” Jamie said. “Wildbird is born out of that.”

The 1,400-square-foot shop will offer a curated collection of books that the Cains recommend or would like to read. There will also be a dedicated kids’ area. Other offerings will include gifts, stationery, puzzles and games.

Customers can also expect events such as book groups that are designed to bring the community together.

“We want to bring people together around books and ideas,” Jamie said. “We did a few pop-ups in the fall and got to meet a lot of people who are excited to have a bookstore in the community. We look forward to having people wander in, spend time and have good conversations.”

In addition to Wildbird Bookshop, the Homestead development will feature a food hall called Communion Street Market, featuring spots like Peyton’s Pie Company, Prime + Provisions Butcher Shop and cocktail bar Better Days. There will also be an insurance agency and a women’s boutique called Mulberry Lane.
