Award-Winning New Orleans Eatery Shutting Down After 8 Years

Gris-Gris, known for serving signature Southern dishes, will be closing its doors at the end of July.

A longtime Magazine Street restaurant in New Orleans is preparing to close later this month. Gris-Gris’ owner shared the closure announcement on social media. For its final month, the restaurant will bring back its original 2018 menu at 2018 prices.

Gris-Gris Announces Closure

Louisiana chef and restaurateur Eric Cook won the 2016 National Chef’s Taste Challenge and is the owner of Gris-Gris. Cook has appeared on television programs including Top Chef, Off the Menu, and After Hours with Daniel Boulud. He has also appeared on Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted and has been featured in several national publications.

Gris-Gris, located in the heart of New Orleans, began its journey in 2018. Led by Chef Cook, the Southern dish specialty restaurant earned several accolades. In 2019, it was awarded Eater New Orleans’ Reader’s Choice for both Restaurant of the Year and Chef of the Year. It also received New Orleans City Business’ 2018 Restaurant of the Year, New Orleans Magazine’s Best Restaurants of 2019, and more.

Eric and Robyn Cook announced on Instagram that the restaurant will close at the end of July. In the post, they wrote, “We have decided to close Gris-Gris at the end of July. This is a decision that has come with a tremendous amount of emotion, and our hearts are broken.”

The owners pointed out that it was a “business decision.” They thanked the community and customers for their support. According to the post, more details about the closure decision will be shared on Thursday, July 9.

Revives 2018 Menu Prices for the Final Month

For its final month of operation, the restaurant announced the revival of its original 2018 menu’s signature dishes. The menu is offering classic salad options, appetizers, and entrees. The menu items will be available all day, at the same 2018 prices.

Signature dishes include chicken and dumplings, oyster BLTs, and pork chops. The space also features a chic bar and has indoor and outdoor seating.

Gris-Gris will remain open through the end of July, giving guests one final opportunity to enjoy its original 2018 menu before the restaurant closes.
