Thornton could soon be getting its first Aldi as the popular discount grocer continues laying the groundwork for its arrival in Colorado.
According to Naked Denver, pre-application plans filed with the City of Thornton show a new Aldi proposed for 550 E. 97th Avenue and 9650 Grant Street, just east of Interstate 25.
The proposed store would span about 20,436 square feet on a currently vacant 2.85-acre property. Plans also call for beer and wine sales and parking for more than 90 vehicles, including accessible spaces..
Thornton is one of several Colorado communities where Aldi is starting to make moves. Other locations have been proposed in Denver, including Central Park and the Link56 development, as the grocer works toward establishing its first stores in the state.
Aldi previously announced plans to open more than 50 stores across the Denver and Colorado Springs markets in the coming years. The chain operates more than 2,600 stores in the US.
While it looks like the Thornton store is still in the early planning stages, an opening date has not been announced by the company.
