Starbird Chicken is preparing to open its first traditional brick-and-mortar restaurant in San Francisco at Fisherman’s Wharf. The fast-casual chicken chain has leased approximately 2,180 square feet at 333 Jefferson St., Suite 106, inside the Anchor’s Landing shopping center. The restaurant is targeting a summer 2027 opening, according to a press release.

The company confirmed the lease on October 28. The new restaurant will occupy four smaller tenant spaces that are being combined into a single location near the corner of Jefferson and Jones streets.

Founded in 2016 by culinary industry veteran Aaron Noveshen, Starbird is headquartered in San Francisco. Although the company already has a presence in the city through a delivery- and pickup-only kitchen at 60 Morris St., the Fisherman’s Wharf restaurant will be its first traditional storefront in its hometown.

The chain specializes in fried chicken and operates locations throughout the Bay Area. Its existing Northern California footprint includes restaurants in Corte Madera, Cupertino, Foster City, Palo Alto, Pleasanton, San Jose, South San Francisco, Sunnyvale and Walnut Creek, as well as locations at San Francisco International Airport and local sports venues.

Starbird has also been pursuing expansion outside California. According to the Business Times, the company has opened restaurants in Colorado, Illinois and Washington and has signed additional franchise agreements in at least three other states.

The new restaurant will join a growing group of food and beverage tenants at Anchor’s Landing, a shopping center owned by BH Properties. The property has undergone renovations since the real estate company acquired it in 2023, including updated storefronts and additional amenities.

Other tenants at the center include In-N-Out Burger, Taco Bell Cantina, Saigon Sandwich, Little Sweet and karaoke venue Space.
