In addition to our normal news coverage, What Now Atlanta is tracking ways Atlanta’s businesses are adapting to the novel coronavirus and the challenges it brings to brick-and-mortars.

Newly-launched Scrubs Grub is on a mission to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic by doing good in two key ways—keeping restaurants in business and healthcare workers well-fed.

The community-led effort, Co-Founded by Katherine Drolett of The Nook and Katrina Spivey of Kat’s Kreative Studio, launched Tuesday and has already delivered 234 meals and raised $2,765.

Here’s how it works and how Atlantans—including restaurant owners—can get involved.

  1. Donations, recommended at a starting ask of $10 each, are collected by Scrubs Grub via GoFundMe.
  2. 100 percent of collected funds are given to participating restaurants to cook meals and pay employees.
  3. The meals are delivered by the Scrubs Grub team to COVID-19 frontline workers to enjoy, free of charge.

“We are bringing people together to help harness the power of our local restaurant community, and coordinate the preparation and delivery of amazing meals to support our front line workers during this pandemic,” Drolett told What Now Atlanta in an email.

“The coronavirus has made life difficult for all of us in Atlanta and beyond. Without question, people in the restaurant and healthcare industries are some of the most affected. We created Scrubs Grub to help both.”

In addition to donations, Drolett and Spivey are looking for restaurants to participate. Interested eateries can send an email here to get started.
