Dan’s Snack Bar, a new breakfast, lunch, and dinner restaurant concept from pop-up operator Henryk Kumar, is preparing to open in downtown Decatur at 406 Church Street.

The restaurant is expected to move into the former home of Mother’s Best Fried Chicken, according to Atlanta Business Times. An exact opening date has not been announced, though the concept is currently targeting an August 2026 opening. Kumar is also seeking a coffee partner for the space, which includes an existing to-go window. Once open, customers can expect a menu centered on inventive sweet-and-savory dishes served throughout the day.

Dan’s Snack Bar marks Kumar’s transition from pop-up operations into a permanent brick-and-mortar restaurant. The 2,000-square-foot space was previously occupied by Mother’s Best Fried Chicken, which opened in December 2024 as a pop-up-turned-restaurant and operated for roughly 1.5 years before the space was sold.

Kumar has built a following in the Atlanta food scene through multiple concepts, including his pop-up, Dank’s Deli, known for creative sandwich builds and bold flavor combinations. He also previously co-owned and directed operations at Butter & Cream, an ice cream shop located near the new Decatur restaurant. His culinary approach often focuses on high-quality base ingredients paired with experimental twists, particularly sweet-and-savory pairings.

The upcoming restaurant sits near Decatur Square, which recently completed an $8.5 million renovation. Improvements to the public space include new green areas, a performance stage, and a children’s play area. The project was completed in anticipation of major events tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Dan’s Snack Bar is expected to bring a flexible, all-day dining format to the corridor, with a focus on approachable comfort food layered with creative techniques. The to-go window is expected to support quick service alongside dine-in offerings, aligning with the foot traffic generated by the surrounding downtown district.
