Start-Up Videogames could open at 12505 Rampart St., Building D, where a commercial remodel permit was issued in late June 2026. What Now Austin reached out to the founder, Christian Amador, but did not receive a response prior to publication. Details about the concept, opening timeline, and offerings have not been publicly announced.

The Rampart Street address sits near the Parmer Lane corridor, a densely populated pocket of North Austin home to a mix of residential neighborhoods, tech campuses, and neighborhood-serving retail. The building is a multi-tenant commercial strip, and a new video game concept in that setting could tap into the area’s mix of families, students, and young professionals.

The video game retail and entertainment market has seen a notable resurgence in recent years, driven by renewed interest in retro gaming, collectibles, and in-person gaming experiences. Concepts ranging from traditional game stores to arcade bars and competitive gaming lounges have expanded steadily across Texas, with Austin emerging as an increasingly active market for independent gaming-related retail, according to Video Games Houston.

Independent video game stores in particular have carved out loyal customer bases by offering trade-in programs, curated retro selections, and community events that larger chains have struggled to replicate.
