Clarke’s at Faneuil Hall in Boston is set to close permanently. Located at 21 Merchants Row, the eatery has served the Boston community for half a century. In a social media post, the restaurant team shared the closure announcement.

Clarke’s Sets This Week for Last Call at Merchants Row

Marking the end of an era, historic Clarke’s at Faneuil Hall is closing its doors. After more than five decades of operation, the modern American-Irish pub announced its closure this weekend.

In an Instagram post, the team shared a message announcing the closure, “There is a time for everything in life. As we enter the final week of Clarke’s, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to the many people who have been part of this journey. It is difficult to know where to begin.”

The bar is known for its welcoming atmosphere and central location near Faneuil Hall. It offers comfort food and traditional pub fare. The menu includes staples like burgers, sandwiches, and seafood dishes.

The team thanked its staff and community for their support over the decades. They added, “We are deeply grateful.”

The post also thanked the Boston Police and Fire Departments for their service and support over the years. The bar has not specified an exact closure date, noting only that this is its final week.

Financial Pressure Leads to Closure After 50 Years

According to a Bostonglobe report, the bar owners were under major economic pressure. “A June 2025 foreclosure on the first-floor unit forced the issue; owners couldn’t meet the auction price,” the report stated.

The report also mentioned that Stephen V. Miller, owner of the bar, shared that business in downtown Boston never fully recovered after the pandemic.

Although the Merchants Row location is closing, the team is exploring opportunities to reopen elsewhere.

As the news of Clarke’s closure was announced, several fans expressed their sadness and flooded the post with comments.

One of the customers wrote, “What a loss to the Boston community! Thank you, Maura and Gracie, for so many amazing memories, family events, milestones celebrated, and epic nights at Clarke’s.”

With the closure of Clarke’s at Faneuil Hall, Boston loses a long-running neighborhood pub. The pub leaves behind a decades-long presence in downtown Boston.
