A local business owner is getting ready to debut his breakfast spot to the community this year.
From their social media, a new beverage spot called Jeffery Java & Juice is under construction at 7104 S Jeffery Boulevard in South Shore. The address was formerly Sunnytown Food Mart. An opening date has not yet been released, but work is currently being done on the interior to prepare for its debut.
The owner is listed as Luster Lockhart, who is also a local chef. The project has been teased since late 2023, when the Chicago Planning & Development Instagram page posted about the restaurant coming to the South Shore area. It explained the concept is being opened with the help of a Community Development Grant.
“His innovative menu brings vegan donuts, breakfast waffle sandwiches and Ethiopian coffee to the neighborhood,” says the post. At the time, the business was called Jeffery Java & Old Fashioned Donuts.
The breakfast and coffee spot is coming to the intersection of E 71st Street and S Jeffery Boulevard. Other concepts nearby include Italian Fiesta Pizzeria, The Slab Bar-B-Que and Jeffery Pub. This is close to the Bryn Mawr Metra station on E 71st.
More updates on construction progress can be found on the business’s Instagram @jefferyjavajuice. What Now Chicago is awaiting comment from Lockhart about the new location.
