A cozy business on the south end of downtown could be approved soon.

Met is the name of a new boutique and tea lounge concept for Grand Rapids at 15 Ionia Avenue SW. The business will mainly sell flowers, as well as packaged tea blends to accompany the tea lounge. Owner Courtney Failer told What Now Detroit she is hoping to open March 2027 as she is going through the city to get approval for special land use.

She came up with the name referencing a “metropolis” like New York and having a space where locals can meet. Whether customers are looking to shop for floral arrangements or grab a quick tea, it will be a gathering spot for the community.

“You’re welcome at all times,” Failer said.

For the boutique part of the business, flowers can be purchased by the stem. She is not specializing in selling elaborate bouquets, and focusing on more individual options. The tea lounge will be within the store, and a menu has not yet been released.

Along with the boutique and tea lounge, Failer is also planning on debuting a cocktail bar at the space. Met will be near the intersection of Fulton Street W, in front of Van Andel Arena downtown. It shares the building with a Cottage Inn Pizza and Hopcat.

As Failer goes through the city approvals, she will be providing more updates on her new business to the community.
