As Caruso prepares to relaunch Palisades Village on Aug. 15, multiple Palisades businesses are making a comeback, including longtime local business The K Bakery. CEO Kim Kedeshian launched the business in 2011 and built it up to include two restaurants in the Pacific Palisades.
However, everything changed when the January 2025 fires burned down Kedeshian’s family home and left both of her businesses shuttered. Now, about 18 months later, Kedeshian is preparing to relaunch The K Bakery at the Palisades Village at 1061 Swarthmore Avenue.
“As difficult as it’s been, it’s given me an opportunity to take a pause and really reevaluate what’s important and also reevaluate what I wanted to do with the business,” Kedeshian said. “I really wanted to be in a space that I felt was on par with our business and with a group of people that had the same vision as we do.”
The new shop will be a return to K Bakery’s roots in a new space, Kedeshian told What Now Los Angeles. The location will function largely as a to-go spot with some patio seating outside. There will be a streamlined menu, offering popular pastries, signature cakes and an expanded bread selection including sourdough, cranberry pecan, focaccia and cinnamon raisin. Other offerings will include chicken pot pie, breakfast items, daily soups, sandwiches and grab-and-go options such as soups, salads and proteins. Beverage offerings will include coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, iced tea, lemonade and cucumber mint water.
Kedeshian is taking the opportunity to weave elements of K Bakery’s history into the new location. For example, the team will sell the signature cakes in striped boxes that are reminiscent of the brand’s original boxes from when Kedeshian started out.
“We tried to carry over some of what we’ve done over the years, which I think is really nice for people that have known us, and it’s also nice while we’re coming back now after the fires,” Kedeshian said. “I think it was really important for us to bring some of those more nostalgic things back.”
The space will feature an open floor plan with a large glass window in front that allows for plenty of natural light. The team also wove glass elements throughout the interior of the space, including to showcase the open kitchen so customers can see the chefs working.
“I think it’s just fun for everyone to look in and see bread being made or your food being prepared,” Kedeshian said. “We’re very connected with the community and the people that we serve, so this is a wonderful way of being able to to have that.”
The K Bakery is not the only local business making a comeback. Palisades Village will be bringing back prior tenants including Elyse Walker, Erewhon, Brunello Cucinelli, Zimmermann, Brunello Cucinelli, Veronica Beard and Blue Ribbon Sushi. Additional tenants will also be joining the Village, including Italian steakhouse Spacca Tutto, women’s apparel brand LETSET, Los Angeles brand Violet Grey and local apparel brand Xirena.
“Everything is not perfect. We always have bumps and we have to get through things. But on a whole, it’s been an incredible journey of working with people and having mutual respect and communication, and it’s been easy to keep adding those types of people to my team. This journey has been made a lot easier by the Caruso team and all the people that I have brought onto our team,” Kedeshian said. “It’s been a journey, but there have been a lot of blessings and positivity that have come out of it.”
