The Bookshop is preparing to relocate from its longtime East Nashville home to a larger space in the McFerrin Park neighborhood, according to a report from The Nashville Scene.

The independent bookstore plans to move from its current 550-square-foot location at 1043 W. Eastland Avenue to 824 Meridian Street. The new space will be nearly three times larger and will include a 600-square-foot front porch for community gatherings and events, The Nashville Scene reports.

The move follows roughly a decade at the bookstore’s current location and represents a major expansion for the locally owned business.

Owner Joelle Herr told The Nashville Scene that customers have responded enthusiastically to the announcement.

“The response to our announcement this morning has been overwhelming in the very best of ways, and the move feels somehow even more real now that others know about it,” Herr said.

Herr also told the publication that she plans to share updates and sneak peeks throughout the buildout process as work progresses on the new location.

“I’m looking forward to sharing updates and sneak peeks over the coming months of the buildout — and can’t wait for the day we can welcome everyone into our expanded book lovers’ haven on Meridian Street,” she said.

According to The Nashville Scene, The Bookshop expects to complete the relocation and open its new Meridian Street location before the end of 2026.

The publication notes that the move comes as changes continue along the Eastland Avenue corridor. The building that currently houses The Bookshop was purchased by a Washington, D.C.-area real estate company in 2022, while neighboring coffee shop Hanna Bee closed earlier this year. Peninsula and Darlin’ continue to operate from the property.

WhatNow Nashville reached out to Herr but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
