Ess-a-Bagel Celebrates Half-Century With New Manhattan Location

A longstanding New York favorite bagel stand, Ess-a-Bagel, is preparing for the grand opening of a new flagship store in Midtown East. The new store will open at 770 Third Avenue near East 48th Street in Midtown East.

The opening event is scheduled for July 16 and will serve as part of the company’s 50th-anniversary festivities.

According to Melanie Frost, CEO of Ess-a-Bagel, the event will feature complimentary tastings of some of the brand’s signature menu items. The brand has also planned music, giveaways, cake, raffles, and much more for the evening.

Talking about the grand opening, Frost added, “As we mark 50 years of serving authentic New York bagels, we’d be honored to welcome you to our new home—a larger, more modern space just three blocks from our longtime Midtown location.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is also planned along with an Ess-a-Bagel team meet-and-greet. The celebration will begin at 6 p.m. and will continue until 9 p.m. Attendees are required to RSVP by July 9.

Ess-a-Bagel was founded in 1976 by Florence Wilpon, her husband Gene Wilpon, and her brother Aaron Wenzelberg. The brand opened its first shop in Manhattan’s Gramercy neighborhood. Currently, it is one of New York’s most well-known bagel destinations.

Over the years, Ess-a-Bagel built a loyal following with its hand-rolled bagels. In 1993, the company expanded with a Midtown location. The menu offers oversized bagels with a wide variety of cream cheese and other classic sandwich options.

The new Ess-a-Bagel flagship location strengthens the brand’s longstanding presence in New York City.
