Wilson Tang, owner of the coveted Chinese brand Nom Wah, is partnering with restaurateur Mandy Zhang to open a new Chinese eatery called Nomad Tea Parlor this fall.
The new restaurant is slated to offer dim sum and other familiar Chinese-American fare, teas and cocktails in a spacious setting, according to reporting from The New York Times. The concept is the result of a collaboration between Tang, a former owner of Nom Wah Tea Parlor, which is Manhattan Chinatown’s oldest continuously operating dim sum spot, and Zhang, a partner at the Chinese restaurant Blue Willow in Midtown.
Nom Wah has been serving dim sum since 1920. It also has outposts in Nolita and Philadelphia. Blue Willow was founded by Vincent Lin who also owns several other Hunan restaurants including Hunan House, which was the former occupant of the space. It received a relatively favorable review back in 2021 from food critic Robert Sietsema in Eater NY.
However Tang is currently in a legal dispute with Nom Wah Tea Parlor owner Vincent Tang, according to reporting from this spring at The New Yorker’s Grub Street. There are no updates about the case available at press time.
