Nicole Marquis founded HipCityVeg in 2012 in an attempt to promote a vegan diet in the form of foods people already know and love—burgers and fries. And as it turns out, the world was ready. Today, HipCityVeg serves up a plant-based menu in Philly, the surrounding suburbs, and D.C. too. And that’s not all—the company recently announced an 8-store expansion in the coming months.

HipCityVeg will arrive on the New York scene to up our hipness this fall. The eatery already has a storefront lined up for Union Square, at 28 E 12th St. In addition, two ghost-kitchens or to-go locations are set to open in Brooklyn and Queens, although those locations are yet to be announced.

The restaurant’s philosophy is based on the idea that we can all eat well and feel good, not just in own our bodies but about how we treat our planet, too. “By choosing vegan ingredients and compostable materials, we’re creating a new normal that’s better for ourselves and the world we live in,” shares HipCityVeg’s website.

Top of the eatery’s menu are, of course, the burgers. And just because HipCity eschews beef, doesn’t mean you’re stuck with just one protein option. HipCityVeg carries Beyond Meat and serves up portabellas, crispy or grilled. You can also order salads, chick’n sandwiches, sides, and shakes made with soy ice cream.

HipCityVeg’s parent company is Marquis & Co. which also backs restaurants like Philly’s Bar Bombon and Charlie was a sinner. We were unable to reach Marquis for comment at the time of publication. HipCityVeg Union Square is reportedly set to open on October 13th.
