Sunday Hospitality will be introducing a new concept to the city. Classic New York steakhouse The Dynamo Room will open later this spring in the redeveloped Penn District at 2 Penn Plaza, according to a release.

The name is a nod to Thomas Edison’s electric generator room, which helped drive the city’s industrial growth. The concept, inspired by the city’s historic grills, will feature steakhouse classics, a raw bar, a curated cocktail program, a wine list and outdoor dining.

“We set out to capture the magic of arriving in New York City — the way Penn Station should feel,” Sunday Hospitality co-founder Adam Landsman said in the release. “A restaurant that’s welcoming enough for everyday dining yet undeniably New York. A grill and oyster bar embodies the city’s rich dining history and timeless appeal. As New Yorkers, this was our chance to give back to the city we love — starting with the first impression visitors get when they arrive.”

Sunday Hospitality — founded by Landsman, Todd Enany and Jaime Young — is behind plenty of other New York concepts, including Japanese restaurant Rule of Thirds in Brooklyn; the Bedford Post Inn and Tavern in Bedford; Sunday in Brooklyn in Williamsburg; Bin Bin Sake; and an array of concepts at Hotel Chelsea, including French bistro Cafe Chelsea, El Quijote, Lobby Bar and the Bard Room.

Chef Derek Boccagno, formerly of Café Chelsea at Hotel Chelsea, will also be joining the team in The Dynamo Room venture. Sunday Hospitality’s Director of Bars, Brian Evans, will be heading up the beverage program.

“We took cues from Chef Charles Ranhofer’s innovative dishes at Delmonico’s in the 1900s and the city’s historic oyster cellars,” Young said in the release. “Our goal was to craft a menu that feels both timeless and forward-thinking, honoring the classics while introducing flavors that reflect the evolution of dining in New York.”

Customers can expect an aesthetic that honors New York’s historical roots while also incorporating a modern, elevated feel. The space will feature woven stone tiling, vaulted ceilings and satellite-inspired light fixtures. Unique design elements will offer nods to the Roman-inspired architecture of the original Pennsylvania Station, and there will be features that pay homage to the evolution of the automobile era and other transportation feats.

The space will also feature artistic elements such as custom-designed seats, a sculptural installation by Parisian artist Vincent Leroy over the main bar and a collection of paintings by Peter Bradley.

The Dynamo Room will be open daily from 7 a.m. t0 1 a.m.
