On The Border’s Bankruptcy and Recent Closures
On The Border closed its company-owned restaurants across the U.S. recently. The Tex-Mex chain was founded in 1982 and previously operated more than 150 restaurants nationwide. The closures follow a period of financial difficulties, bankruptcy, and an attempted turnaround under new ownership.
According to PRNewswire, OTB Hospitality, the company that operated the restaurant chain, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on June 19. The filing came after the company closed all of its company-owned locations. The filing began the process of liquidating its remaining assets under the supervision of a bankruptcy trustee.
Chris Pappas, a spokesperson for OTB Hospitality, said the company worked to stabilize the business. However, it was determined that the restaurant would require significant ongoing investment and resources.
