FreshRealm has initiated the recall of the contaminated products produced before June 17, 2025. These items were sold nationwide at Walmart and Kroger. The chicken fettuccine alfredo items were sold at the stores under the Marketside and Home Chef brands.
FreshRealm’s facilities in San Clemente (CA), Indianapolis (IN), and Montezuma (GA) have voluntarily initiated the recall due to the contamination.

FSIS Conducts Investigation Following Three Deaths
The FSIS has started investigating the potential Listeria contamination in FreshRealm’s products. As of June 18, 2025, FDA data shows that 17 cases have been reported from 13 states. Of the 11 interviewed, seven reported eating precooked meals, and 4 specifically reported eating chicken fettuccine alfredo. Of 17 people with information, 16 were hospitalized, and there were 3 deaths attributed to listeriosis. There is one pregnancy-associated illness in a mother that resulted in a fetal loss.
FSIS noted that the Listeria strain was isolated from ill people from August 2024 to May 2025. As per the ongoing investigation, the source of contamination for FreshRealm’s meals has still not been identified.
Symptoms of the Listeria Infection
The general symptoms of Listeriosis include headache, fever, and confusion. Muscle aches, convulsions, or a stiff neck are also possible. Sometimes, diarrhea or similar gastrointestinal issues may occur before the other symptoms.
According to FSIS, pregnant women might experience stillbirths, miscarriages, or premature delivery. The potential Listeria infection could also result in life-threatening infection for newborns.
The older population and those with weak immunity might face fatal infections.
Generally, the symptoms may start two weeks after eating the contaminated products. In some cases, though, it could start on the same day or 10 weeks later.
What Can Customers Do?
Consumers who still have the recalled FreshRealm products must not consume them. They should throw them away or return them to the retailers. The bacterium can spread to refrigerators and utensils, so consumers should clean them thoroughly.
