Great Marsh Brewing Company has filed for bankruptcy protection after almost seven years of service. The company, which operates as a brewery, taproom, and biergarten in Essex, Massachusetts, has not mentioned a specific reason in its petition.

With this move, the company adds to a growing number of brewing companies that have pursued Chapter 11 proceedings in recent months.

Great Marsh Brewing Company Files for Bankruptcy

The company officially submitted its petition on June 9, 2026. Court records show the company filed under Chapter 11, a process that allows businesses to reorganize their finances under court supervision.

According to PACER records, attorney Conner B. Verreaux of Murphy & King Professional Corporation is the legal counsel for Great Marsh Brewing Company. Company president John Collins is the authorized representative who signed the petition prior to filing.

Brix City Brewing, LLC entered Chapter 11 proceedings on February 5, 2026. The taproom ceased operations around a year ago owing to rising rents. The Little Ferry, New Jersey-based brewery remains closed, according to reports surrounding its bankruptcy proceedings.

Great Marsh Brewing Company’s filing yet again reflects broader pressure across the craft beer industry. Financial pressures seem to be driving breweries and similar businesses towards restructuring.
