An eclectic South Philadelphia restaurant may soon reopen.
Roxanne, owned by Chef Alexandra Holt and recognized by the 2025 Michelin Guide, is once again accepting reservations through Resy for the end of June, a search by What Now Philadelphia confirmed.
This follows Roxanne’s shutdown in April over licensing issues. Chef Holt had been operating the restaurant without the required food preparation and serving license after moving the “experimental supper club” from 912 Christian St. to 607 S. Second St. in December 2024. The restaurant also went 14 months without a health inspection at the location, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The lights may soon come back on, as the outlet also reported Roxanne recently submitted a plan of review.
A plan of review is a document submitted to a city or regulatory agency outlining how a business will meet required codes and regulations before reopening or moving forward with permits. For restaurants, it typically details kitchen and service area layouts, food safety and sanitation procedures, equipment use and operational changes, and other steps needed to comply with health and licensing requirements.
The health department accepted Roxanne’s application, but officials have not yet conducted a health inspection.
Roxanne opened in 2022 and is named after Chef Holt’s mother. The restaurant is known for its limited menu, which emphasizes bold flavor profiles and distinctive plating techniques.
“Garlic scapes arrive buried under a mountain of ripe melon with sheep’s milk cheese running down one side. Delicate ricotta gnudi are set in a fierce Sungold tomato sauce. Does roast duck really need a wedge of Stilton? How many cherries does it take to cover coffee crème brûlée? Just go with it,” according to the Michelin Guide website.
When it was open, the eatery also offered a lunch menu featuring raw selections such as shrimp cocktail, crab claws with onion dip and Beausoleil oysters served with fermented hot sauce, along with sandwiches and sides including fries with aioli, a kale Caesar and a fruit plate.
What Now Philadelphia reached out to Chef Holt regarding upcoming plans. This article may be updated.
