Silk Way Announces Closure After Less Than a Year

Located at 507 S 6th Street in Philadelphia, Silk Way announced its closure. The restaurant did not provide a specific reason for the decision. The restaurant team thanked the community for its support during its short run. They said the space created unforgettable memories.
According to a report by BillyPenn at WHYY, in 2024, Silk Way Family Restaurant soft-opened. It is owned by Olzhas Karymsakov and his family. The restaurant serves Central Asian cuisine in the Philadelphia area. The menu features food from various cultures, such as Kazakh, Uzbek, Uyghur, Armenian, and Georgian.
Diners enjoy lagman noodles, plov, beshparmak, kebabs, dumplings, and savory pastries at Silk Way. The menu also includes Pepper-and-tomato achuchuck salad, samsas, chebureks, and Georgian-style khinkals. A black tea, green tea, lemon tea, ayran, and fruit compote are also served.
The restaurant is located on a prominent, family-friendly corner close to Starr Garden playground in Queen Village. Some customers have complimented the restaurant’s food and ambiance.
The community is disappointed by the closure news. Some people described the restaurant as a “one-of-a-kind addition” to the neighborhood’s restaurant scene. Others mentioned the difficulty in sustaining a brand-new independent restaurant in the competitive food scene of Philadelphia.
