The Markham Team, led by CEO Adam Golomb, has acquired 10 Smoothie King locations across Pennsylvania and New Jersey and plans to continue expanding the brand.
The team spent the past six to nine months evaluating opportunities aligned with its portfolio, from multi-unit restaurant concepts to retail businesses, before selecting Smoothie King.
“We came across this 10-unit chain. It’s a nice market and nice group of stores to be able to start building an infrastructure on. As we dug more into it and spent more time with the Smoothie King executive team, we felt that brand is really positioned well from a health and wellness standpoint,” Golomb told What Now Philadelphia.
Golomb brings 25 years of multi-unit experience in the restaurant and retail industry. He has previously worked with iconic Pittsburgh brands such as Eat ’n Park and Giant Eagle and most recently served as CEO of Primanti Bros. Restaurant and Bar.
“I know what big looks like and I know what infrastructure you need. At the same point, I know how to operate in a small business and how to connect with our people,” he said.
From Philadelphia to the surrounding suburbs and into South Jersey, the acquired Smoothie King locations include:

- 2201 Cottman Ave., Ste 114, Philadelphia, PA 19149
- 7630 City Line Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19151

The team is actively working in the stores to ensure they are in top condition.
“We’re really spending a lot of time in the stores, making sure they’re clean and that everything is repaired because we’re big believers in cleanliness. It’s a clear sign to not only the team but also guests that it’s a quality experience,” Golomb said.
They also plan to work closely with staff.
“We’re retraining all the employees in both the Smoothie King way on how to make the drinks, how to make the food, but also in the way we think about customer service and employee team member relations, and how you develop team members,” he said.
Smoothie King’s menu centers on customizable smoothies made with whole fruits, organic vegetables and nutritional enhancers, grouped by purpose-based categories such as energy, fitness, weight management and wellness. Options range from protein-packed blends and low-calorie smoothies to indulgent flavors and kid-friendly choices, alongside a small selection of smoothie bowls and light food items like toasts and protein boxes.
“Smoothie King rolled out over the last couple of months a whole bunch of new food items. One of those items is an avocado toast with a hard boiled egg on top and then a spicy chili sauce. That’s my new favorite food item,” Golomb said. “I’m also a big fan of The Hulk. It’s a great drink with banana and chocolate. You can also add coffee into it, which is great in the morning.”
Golomb is looking forward to working with all employees.
“It’s really great to see employees’ excitement as we go in and just some of the little things, getting them equipment or getting things fixed. I’m excited to connect with them and give them a career path—start out as a team member and five years later, they’re a regional manager,” he said.
While continuing to focus on the recently acquired locations, the team is also “actively in discussions” to acquire additional sites.
“We’re looking in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey–that region is our footprint. We think there’s enough growth between those six states to build a nice business,” Golomb said.
