Get ready, Temple locals, the long wait for a new tavern from a top restaurant group is almost over. Glu Hospitality is opening a new concept called The Peabody on campus later this year, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The restaurant and bar will be bringing a more upscale dining experience to the space at 1431 Cecil B. Moore Avenue that previously housed the Draught Horse Pub & Grill. Glu Hospitality has been working towards opening the 6,000 square foot for approximately three years, but an end is in sight; the restaurant group anticipates opening The Peabody in winter of 2025.

The space will be able to accommodate 40 guests at the bar, with dining room seating for up to 150 patrons.

Temple students, faculty, and locals alike can look forward to enjoying a menu rife with popular American fare once the establishment opens its doors. The restaurant is slated to serve sandwiches, salads, and appetizers, with a few more sophisticated options such as steaks. The over 21 crowd can select from one of twelve beers on draft, with even more canned options. Additionally, The Peabody will offer classic cocktails for those hoping to imbibe.

Glu is planning to populate its staff with primarily Temple students, who are likely to also be a large portion of the bar’s clientele. The Peabody has big shoes to fill; Draught Horse was an institution to the Temple community for 20 years before it shut down due to the pandemic. However, Glu has proven themselves up to the challenge; the restaurant group has established a strong presence in the city with everything ranging from bagels to sushi.
