The Chinese Cowboy Closes Portland Location
The Chinese Cowboy was known for its east-meets-west dining experience and comfortable atmosphere. It offered a blend of traditional American barbeque with fiery and bold Asian flavors.
The menu featured creative dishes like brisket sandwich, brisket fried rice, and the Warsugai sandwich.
The restaurant team shared, “After much consideration, we share the difficult news that The Chinese Cowboy will be closing its doors.”
The Hoodline report mentions that Chef Kyo Koo first opened Warsugai at 727 SE Washington Street in January 2024. The space was then transformed into The Chinese Cowboy in April 2025. Chef Koo was also the former owner of Danwei Canting.
To celebrate its journey, the restaurant hosted a karaoke on Friday, April 10, before closing its doors on April 11.
“The Chinese Cowboy was always more than a restaurant—it was a community, a collaboration, and a shared experience. We are endlessly grateful to everyone who was part of it,” said the team.
Restaurant Shutters After Facing Financial Challenges
